• Shorts: The temple is a place of saiyam (self‑restraint) and brahmacharya‑bhava. Clothes should be clean, simple, and modest—covering at least the knees and shoulders. Short or revealing dress disturbs the devotional atmosphere and is against maryada (temple decorum) followed in both Shwetambar and Digambar traditions.

• Phone: Many derasars actually discourage phones. Where they’re allowed, it’s only as a dormant upkaran (tool)—kept on silent/off, no calls, music, or photos—so it does not break mauna/shanti. If a phone causes distraction, it is also not permitted.

• Local rules: Each temple board sets practical guidelines. Always follow the posted maryada for dress and device use.
