    Steps to conclude pratikaman

    12 months ago 100

Below are simple, traditional steps to conclude Pratikraman. Wordings vary slightly by tradition; follow your Guru/temple text where available.

    Common conclusion (both traditions)

    • Kshamapana (seeking forgiveness)
    - Recite: “Khamemi savve jiva, savve jiva khamantu me; mitti me savva bhuesu, veram majjha na kenai.” - Say from the heart: “Micchami Dukkadam.”
    • Pratyakhyan (renew resolve)
    - Take a clear, time‑bound resolve not to repeat the faults until the next Pratikraman/Samayik.
    • Kayotsarga (silent awareness)
    - Sit/stand still for a short Kayotsarga, steady breath, remain in equanimity; you may softly recite Navkar Mantra.
    • Guru‑vandan and Panch Parmeshthi namaskar
    - Bow mentally/physically to Arihant, Siddha, Acharya, Upadhyaya, and all Sadhus.
    • Mangalik/Mangalācharan
    - Recite: “Mangalam Bhagavān Vīro, Mangalam Gautamo Gurū, Mangalam Sthūlibhadro, Jain Dharmostu Mangalam.” - Or simply recite the Navkar Mantra with devotion.

    Shwetambar practice (at the close)

    • Ucchhvas (formal release from Samayik)
    - Say three times (as per your text): “Icchāmi samāiya‑vippamokkham.”
    • Mangalik and prayers for all beings.
    • If you took any temporary pachchakhān for the Samayik/Pratikraman, formally end or renew as prescribed.

    Digambar practice (at the close)

    • Kshamapana and Pratyakhyan as above.
    • Brief Kayotsarga with awareness of the soul, then offer Namaskara to the Panch Parmeshthi.
    • Conclude with Mangalācharan and a calm return from the vow period (as guided in your Digambar Pratikraman text).

Essence to keep in mind when ending

    • Forgive and seek forgiveness with true humility.
    • Resolve firmly to avoid the same transgressions.
    • End in equanimity, universal friendship, and devotion to the Panch Parmeshthi.
