Prātar (प्रातः) means “in the morning” or “at dawn.” It is a Sanskrit adverb used to indicate the early morning time.

In Jain usage, you’ll see it in names of morning practices, for example:

• Prātaḥ-vandana: morning reverential bowing/prayer
• Prātaḥ-smaraṇa: morning remembrance of the Arihantas and virtues
• Prātaḥ-vidhi: morning routine of purity and worship

Both Digambara and Śvetāmbara traditions use the term in this plain sense for morning rites; the meaning is the same.
