Give step be step process of pratikraman in shraman sangh

    12 months ago 140

Below is a simple, step‑by‑step flow of Pratikraman as done in the Jain Shwetambar Shraman Sangh (for a lay follower; Devasi/evening format). Names of core sutras are given so you can follow along with your local Pratikraman pustak. Sequence can vary slightly by upashray/acharya-varga, but this preserves the traditional intent.

    1) Shuddhi and Sthapana

    • Clean place, simple clean clothes, sit facing a pure direction.
    • Keep mind steady, recall the Panch Parmeshthi (Navkar Bhavana).

    2) Pravesh into Samayik

    • Navkar Mantra (3 times).
    • Take samayik with “Icchāmi Khamāsamaṇo” and sit in equanimity.

    3) Īriyā Vahiyāe (Iryāpathik) Sutra

    • Repent for any harm caused while moving, sitting, standing, etc.

    4) Tassa Uttari Karana

    • Further atonement for faults due to inattentive actions of body, speech, mind.

    5) Annattha (Anatthi) or related pratikraman opening sutras

    • Readiness for self‑examination and repentance.

    6) Ālochana (Confession)

    • Aloud or mentally, confess lapses in vratas and daily conduct; many Shraman Sangh pustaks use Vandittu/Ālochana path here.
    • Cultivate genuine remorse (garha) and humility.

    7) Pratikraman (Repentance)

    • Recite the Pratikraman sutras for day’s transgressions.
    • Reflect on papasthān (sources of sin) and samiti/gupti (carefulness and restraints).

    8) Kāyotsarga (Standing Meditation)

    • Stand still, withdraw identification with the body, focus on the soul’s purity.

    9) Pratyākhyān (Resolve)

    • Take fresh resolve to avoid specific faults going forward (as per your capacity).

    10) Kshamāpanā

    • “Khamemi Savve Jīvā; Savve Jīvā Khamantu Me. Mittī Me Savva Bhūesu, Veram Majjha Na Kenai.”
    • Say “Micchāmi Dukkaḍaṃ” with heartfelt forgiveness.

    11) Mangal Paath / Manglik

    • Offer auspicious benediction, salute Panch Parmeshthi, and pray for sarva‑jīva kalyān.

    12) Visarjan of Samayik

    • Properly disengage from samayik with “Icchāmi Khamāsamaṇo.”

    Notes and tradition points

    • This outline reflects the Shwetambar Shraman Sangh lay‑pratikraman flow; the exact text set and order of sutras can differ by acharya‑paramparā and local pustak.
    • Digambar Pratikraman has a different sutra‑set and sequence; do not mix texts across traditions.
    • The spiritual essence is: samayik (equanimity), ālochana (confession), pratikraman (repentance), pratyākhyān (fresh resolve), kāyotsarga (detached meditation), and universal forgiveness.

Helpful, simple guides (same tradition; read along while you practice)

    • Devasi Pratikraman (easy steps)
    • Step‑by‑step Pratikraman (Shravak focus)
    • When Pratikraman should be done (Devasi/Rai/Pakkhi/Chaumasi/Samvatsari)

May this help you perform Pratikraman with right faith, clarity, and simplicity. Michhāmi Dukkaḍaṃ.
