What is Samyak darshan
In Jainism, Samyak Darshan (सम्यक् दर्शन) means "Right Faith" or "Right Perception." It is one of the three essential jewels (Ratnatraya) of Jain spiritual path, along with Samyak Jnana (Right Knowledge) and Samyak Charitra (Right Conduct).
Samyak Darshan is the correct perception or understanding of the true nature of reality, which includes:
- Faith in the teachings of the Tirthankaras (enlightened beings).
- Belief in the seven tattvas (fundamental principles: soul, non-soul, influx, bondage, stoppage, dissociation, and liberation).
- Recognition of the eternal and independent nature of the soul (jiva).
- Acceptance of the law of karma and the path to liberation (moksha).
Samyak Darshan is considered the first step on the path to liberation. Without Right Faith, Right Knowledge and Right Conduct cannot be truly developed. Achieving Samyak Darshan means one has overcome doubts, delusions, and wrong beliefs, and has genuine trust in the Jain path.
Jain scriptures emphasize that Samyak Darshan leads to spiritual awakening and is essential for progressing towards liberation from the cycle of birth and death (samsara).
