2 tivihar upvas + 1 chauvihar upvas than called atham?
Short answer: No.
- Attham (Aatham/Attham tap) means a continuous 3‑day fast completed with one parna at the end. It is not a total made by adding separate one‑day fasts. To be Attham, there should be no parna (no breaking the fast with food) between the three days.
- Tivihar Upvas: fast without food; boiled, filtered water is allowed only in prescribed daylight hours.
- Chauvihar Upvas: fast without food and without water (nirjal) for the whole period.
So, “2 Tivihar Upvas + 1 Chauvihar Upvas” are three separate upvaas. They become Attham only if all three days are kept continuously without parna in between.
Tradition notes
- Shwetambar: Tivihar generally allows only boiled water in daytime; Chauvihar is without water. Attham = 3 continuous days.
- Digambar: Greater emphasis on nirjal; local maryada may vary, but Attham is still a continuous 3‑day fast.
