Navkarshi pachkan fetch
In Jainism, "Navkarshi" refers to the first meal or intake of food after sunrise, which is typically observed after performing prayers and rituals in the morning. "Pachkan" (also spelled as pachkhan or pachakkhāna) is a vow or resolve taken before consuming food, to remind oneself of the rules and disciplines to be followed while eating, including the vow not to eat again until a certain time.
A typical Navkarshi Pachkan (resolution) recited by lay Jains before their first meal is as follows (in Prakrit, Hindi, and English):
Prakrit (original): मं नवकारविहिणं पिवाणं न करिस्सामि, पिवामि च, पिवाए च मे सम्मत्तं।
Hindi Translation: मैं नवकार मंत्र के बिना जल आदि ग्रहण नहीं करूंगा। मैं जल ग्रहण करता हूं, और जल ग्रहण करना मेरे लिए संमत है।
English Translation: I will not consume water (or food) without reciting the Navkar Mantra. I am now taking water (or food) after reciting the Navkar Mantra, and it is appropriate for me.
Typical Pachkan for Navkarshi: From now until the next meal (usually Chauvihar or next Pachkan time), I will not eat or drink anything except plain boiled water (if permitted), which will also be consumed only during the allowed times and after proper Pachkan.
Example Pachkan Recitation: आज मैं नवकारशी के बाद, अगले आहार तक, जल (या जल व आहार) ग्रहण नहीं करूंगा/करूंगी। Aaj main Navkarshi ke baad, agle aahar tak, jal (ya jal va aahar) grahan nahin karoonga/karoongi.
Note: The exact wording and rules can vary by Jain sect (Shwetambar, Digambar, etc.) and community tradition. Some people also recite specific prayers or mantras as part of the Pachkan, affirming the intention to observe all food-related vows until the next Pachkan.
If you need the precise Pachkan in a particular language or tradition (e.g., Digambar, Shwetambar, English, Hindi), please specify.
