i am on my periods on samvatsari and i can not do samvatsari pratikraman so can i do samvatsari pratikraman on dubli atham?
Short answer: Yes—if you could not do the Samvatsari Pratikraman on the day because of periods, you may do the full make‑up Pratikraman after shuddhi. In many Shvetāmbara sanghs this is allowed on the earliest suitable day; some communities also keep the option to do it on “Dubli Ātham” (Ashtami) as a make‑up. Follow your sangh/guru’s nirdesh. The inner kṣamā‑bhāvanā must be done on Samvatsari itself.
Simple, tradition‑safe way to observe:
- On Samvatsari day (while on periods): do internal kṣamā‑bhāvanā—Navkar mantra, “Khamemi savva jīvāo/Micchāmi Dukkaḍaṁ,” quiet sāmāyik‑bhāva and forgiveness to all—without touching scriptures or joining the formal upāśray ritual.
- After shuddhi: perform Alochanā–Pratikraman completely once as make‑up. If your sangh observes a make‑up on Dubli Ātham, you may do it then; otherwise do it on the first available day. Take proper pachchakkhān (pratyākhyān) before starting.
- Digambar tradition: external rituals are similarly avoided during periods; do internal kṣamā on the day, and complete the full Pratikraman/Kṣamāvaṇī‑bhāvanā after shuddhi.
Key points to remember
- Essence of Samvatsari is universal forgiveness (kṣamā) and honest alochanā; these may and should be done mentally on the day itself.
- The complete textual Pratikraman can be done after purity returns; timing details (including Dubli Ātham) vary by sangh, so keep your local maryādā.
