Stotra from start
Certainly! In Jainism, "stotra" refers to a hymn or devotional prayer, often recited in praise of Tirthankaras or other revered beings. One of the most famous Jain stotras is the "Namokar Mantra" (also called Navkar Mantra), which is fundamental and recited at the beginning of prayers and rituals. Here is the mantra from the start:
Namokar Mantra (Navkar Mantra):
Transliteration:
Namo Arihantānam
Namo Siddhānam
Namo Ayariyānam
Namo Uvajjhāyānam
Namo Loe Savva Sāhūnam
Eso Panch Namokkāro, Savva Pāvappanāsano
Manglānam cha Savvesim, Padhamam Havai Mangalam
Meaning:
- I bow to the Arihants (perfected souls).
- I bow to the Siddhas (liberated souls).
- I bow to the Acharyas (spiritual leaders).
- I bow to the Upadhyayas (teachers).
- I bow to all the Sadhus (saints) in the world.
This five-fold salutation destroys all sins and is the most auspicious of all auspicious things.
