Labdhi na prakar

Jainism describes labdhi as a type of spiritual attainment or acquisition, especially related to the soul’s intrinsic abilities that become manifest upon the destruction (ksaya) or subsidence (upashama) of karmic coverings. The concept of labdhi na prakar refers to the different types or kinds of such attainments. Main Types (Prakar) of Labdhi:

1. Jnana Labdhi (Attainment of Knowledge)

- This refers to the soul’s ability to attain perfect or special knowledge when obstructing karmas are destroyed or suppressed. - Types include: - Mati Jnana Labdhi (attainment of sensory knowledge) - Shruta Jnana Labdhi (attainment of scriptural knowledge) - Avadhi Jnana Labdhi (clairvoyant knowledge) - Manahparyaya Jnana Labdhi (telepathic knowledge) - Keval Jnana Labdhi (omniscient knowledge)

2. Darshan Labdhi (Attainment of Perception)

- This is the soul’s ability to perceive directly or through various means, upon the removal or suppression of darshanavarniya karma. - Types include: - Chakshu Darshan Labdhi (perception through the eyes) - Achakshu Darshan Labdhi (perception without the eyes) - Avadhi Darshan Labdhi (clairvoyant perception) - Keval Darshan Labdhi (perfect perception)

3. Virya Labdhi (Attainment of Energy or Power)

- Refers to the soul’s ability to express infinite energy or potency, once obstructing karmas are removed. - It enables the soul to perform spiritual practices with vigor and detachment.

4. Sukha Labdhi (Attainment of Bliss)

- The soul experiences infinite bliss (param sukh) upon the destruction of the relevant karmas.

5. Other Labdhis

- Samyaktva Labdhi (attainment of right faith) - Samadhi Labdhi (attainment of meditative absorption)
