Śvetāmbara Jainism (white-clad Jains) is one of the two main Jain traditions. Within Śvetāmbara, there are three primary sub-sects:

• Murtipujaka (Deravasi / Mandir-Mārgi)

- They worship Tirthankara idols in temples and follow temple rituals. - Monks often wear muḥpatti (cloth over the mouth) while speaking. - This is the largest Śvetāmbara group.

• Sthanakavāsī

- They reject idol worship and temple rituals. - Worship and study happen in simple prayer halls called sthānaks, without images.

• Terāpanthī

- A reformist Śvetāmbara sub-sect that emphasizes strict discipline and centralized leadership under a single Acharya. - They also do not practice idol worship and focus on internal spiritual practice.

Notes:

• Śvetāmbara is distinct from Digambara (the other main Jain tradition). Digambaras have their own practices and scriptures.
• These sub-sects share core Jain beliefs but differ mainly in worship styles (idol worship vs. non-idol worship) and organizational structure.
