Meghkumar is a prince in Jain legends. He was the son of King Shrenik (Bimbisara) of Magadha and Queen Dharini. The queen’s pregnancy inspired by rain led to his name Meghkumar. He grew up in great luxury, married, and enjoyed worldly pleasures. When Mahavira visited Rajgriha, Meghkumar was moved by his teachings and decided to renounce the world. To satisfy his mother, he allowed himself to be crowned king for one day, then relinquished everything and became a Jain monk. He endured hardships, followed strict penance, and eventually took the vow of sallekhana (fast unto death). After this, he was said to be born in heaven and would be reborn to attain liberation. This story is often cited to illustrate renunciation, detachment, and the path to liberation. You can read more here
