In Jainism, the first Tirthankara is Lord Rishabhanatha (also known as Adinatha). According to Jain tradition, the very first pratima (idol or image) ever made was of Lord Rishabhanatha himself. It is believed that his image was first created by his son, King Bharata Chakravarti, after Lord Rishabhanatha attained moksha (liberation). This pratima was made to commemorate and honor his father and to provide a focus for devotion and meditation.
