5indriya with example
Five indriyas (pañcendriya) in Jain Dharma are the five senses through which living beings perceive the world. Each indriya has a specific sense object and an organ associated with it.
- Sparshanendriya — Touch
- Rasendriya (Rasanendriya) — Taste
- Ghraṇendriya — Smell
- Chakshurendriya — Sight
- Shravanendriya — Hearing
Notes:
- These indriyas are the functional senses embedded in the corresponding sense organs (adhibhāshthāna) like eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and skin.
- The concepts are described consistently in Jain scriptures and Siddhantic interpretations; traditional Jain thought distinguishes the five indriyas from the physical organs themselves and explains their objects (arthas) and the knowledge (buddhi) they generate.
