What are 10 days of daslakshanya
Das Lakshan (Dash Lakshana) Parva is a Digambar Jain festival that lasts ten days, each day focusing on one supreme virtue (uttam-dharm) of the soul. It follows Paryushan and ends with a mood of forgiveness. The ten virtues are:
- Uttam Kshama — Forgiveness
- Uttam Mardava — Humility / gentleness
- Uttam Arjava — Straightforwardness (truthful conduct)
- Uttam Shaucha — Purity (cleanliness of mind and conduct)
- Uttam Satya — Truth
- Uttam Samyam — Self-restraint (control of senses)
- Uttam Tapa — Austerities (penance and self-discipline)
- Uttam Tyaga — Renunciation / Charity (disinterested giving)
- Uttam Akinchanya — Non-attachment / non-possession
- Uttam Brahmacharya — Celibacy (chastity)
Each day is a focused practice and, in many communities, a recitation or reading related to these virtues is done. The festival emphasizes both practical conduct (vyavahār) and the deeper aim of purifying the soul (nishchaya).
Note: In Digambar tradition, these ten are observed as a sequence of daily reflections after Paryushan. In Shvetambar tradition, Paryushan is observed with its own 8-day format, and the Dash Lakshana Parva follows separately with its own emphasis on these virtues.
