What does michhami dukad mean
Michhami Dukkadam is a Jain greeting and prayer used to seek forgiveness. It literally means “May my misdeeds be fruitless (forgiven).”
- Core meaning: I ask forgiveness for any harm I may have caused, knowingly or unknowingly, to any living being. I also wish that those wrongs be inconsequential or dissolve in the reader’s moment of pardon.
- When it’s said: Traditionally spoken on the last day of Paryushan (Samvatsari) by Svetambar Jains, and on similar forgiveness days (Kshamavani) by Digambar Jains.
- Tradition notes: The exact wording and customs can vary slightly between Digambar and Shwetambar communities, but the intent remains the same—humility, reconciliation, and nonviolence.
