Who created humans?
In Jainism there is no single creator of humans. The soul (jiva) and the world follow eternal, natural laws. Humans are born into a life on earth due to the accumulated karma of past lives, not because a god personally created them. Births, including human birth, arise through karmic causes and the cosmic order, and can change as karma changes.
Key ideas:
- There is no supreme creator who formed humans.
- Each jiva cycles through birth, life, death, and rebirth according to karma.
- Spiritual progress comes from right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct (the sila of Jain practice), which can transform karma and lead toward liberation.
- The basic teaching is the same in both Digambar and Śvetāmbar traditions, though there are differences in some interpretations and temple practices.
