What is Daslakshan and each day
Daslakshan (Das Lakshan Parva) is the festival focusing on the ten supreme virtues to purify the soul. In Digambar Jain tradition it is observed for ten days; Shvetambar tradition generally observes Paryushan for eight days. Ten daily daslakshan (virtues) and their focus: 1) Uttam Kshama — Supreme forgiveness
- Focus: forgive others and oneself, let go of anger.
2) Uttam Mardav — Supreme humility
- Focus: drop pride and treat all beings with gentleness.
3) Uttam Aarjav — Supreme straightforwardness
- Focus: speak and live honestly, without duplicity.
4) Uttam Shauch — Supreme purity
- Focus: simplicity, contentment, and clean thoughts/actions.
5) Uttam Satya — Supreme truth
- Focus: tell the truth, avoid falsehood.
6) Uttam Sanyam — Supreme self-restraint
- Focus: control desires, thoughts, and speech.
7) Uttam Tap — Supreme austerity
- Focus: patient effort, discipline, and voluntary penance.
8) Uttam Tyag — Supreme renunciation
- Focus: renounce attachments and worldly allurements.
9) Uttam Akinchanya — Supreme non-attachment
- Focus: reduce attachment to things, people, and outcomes.
10) Uttam Brahmacharya — Supreme celibacy
- Focus: inner purity, chastity, and faithful conduct.
