Parigraha (Sanskrit: परिग्रह) means possession or attachment to material things—things one clings to, hoards, or desires (wealth, clothes, property, status, etc.).

In Jainism, the key ideal is aparigraha, which means non-attachment or non-possessiveness. Aparigraha is one of the core vows: for monks, it is a Mahavrata; for lay followers, it is a Vow of non-attachment. Excessive parigraha is seen as a source of passion and bondage, whereas practicing aparigraha helps purity, restraint, and spiritual progress.

Note: both Digambara and Śvetāmbara traditions emphasize aparigraha, though discussions of related practices may vary by lineage.
