How many types of pratikaman are there as per shvetambar
Shvetambar tradition recognizes five main Pratikraman (prayers of repentance) types:
- Rai/Raisi Pratikraman (morning): reflect on transgressions during the night and begin the day with repentance.
- Devasi Pratikraman (evening): review the day’s actions and confess mistakes committed during the day.
- Pakshik Pratikraman (fortnightly): done every 15 days, on the 15th and 30th (sud/vad) of the lunar fortnight.
- Chaumasi Pratikraman (quarterly): conducted once every four months, on the chaudas/purnima in Kartik, Falgun, and Ashadh (Ashadha) months.
- Samvatsari Pratikraman (annual): performed at the end of Paryushan, confessional rite covering the year’s transgressions.
Note: In Shvetambar practice, these are the traditional five categories; exact days may vary slightly by local tradition or sect lineage, but the fivefold structure remains standard.
