    Which is wrong Sex karma

    12 months ago 211

In Jainism, sexual passion is considered a strong cause of karmic bondage. It is not itself a good or neutral effect; it is something to guard against because it binds the soul with moha (delusion) and other negative karmas.

What is “wrong” with sex karma:

    • There are specific karmas tied to sexual desire that are counted among the harmful (ghātiyā) karmas. These are three types of sex-desire karmas:
    - Purusa-veda: male sex and its passion toward women. - Strī-veda: female sex and its passion toward men. - Napuṃsaka-veda: the third sex or those lacking traditional sexual organs, and their related passion.
    • These sex-desire karmas are considered harmful because they inflame attachment, jealousy, anger, pride, and other passions, which pull the soul away from right conduct and spiritual progress. They are connected with mohniya (deluding) karma and other interlinked karmas, making liberation harder.

What to do to prevent them:

    • Teachings emphasize brahmacarya (chaste living) and self-control over thoughts and senses.
    • Practicing restraint in thought, speech, and action helps prevent the influx and binding of these karmas.

    Note on tradition:

    • Both Digambara and Śvetāmbara traditions agree that sexual passion is a major obstacle to spiritual progress; they describe its effects and the need for restraint, though the exact technical labels or lists may vary slightly by tradition.

You can read more on this topic in Jain teachings on moral conduct and restraint (brahmacarya) and on how sexual passion binds karmas.
