Day 3: Uttam Aarjav Dharma (Supreme Straightforwardness)

    • What it means (arth)
    - Aarjav means being straight, honest, and simple in thoughts, words, and actions. It is not just telling the truth with your mouth, but also making sure your thoughts and what you do match what you say. - When you are truly straightforward, there is no pretending or hiding. People trust you because your mind, your words, and your actions all line up. - If we are deceitful—thinking one thing, saying another, and doing something different—we create confusion for ourselves and for others, and that binds us to bad karma.
    • How to practice it in daily life
    - Speak truth kindly: tell the truth, but do it without hurting others. - Be consistent: let your thoughts, words, and actions go in the same direction. - Own up to mistakes: if you do something wrong, say so and try to fix it. - Say what you mean, mean what you say, and do what you promise.
    • A simple story to share with kids
    - If you tell a friend you’ll share your snack, share it honestly. If you forgot, tell them honestly, “I forgot this time, I’ll bring it tomorrow.” That shows you are straight and trustworthy.
    • Why it helps your inner self
    - Being straightforward makes your heart light and your mind clear. It helps you earn real confidence and reduces worry about being found out.
    • Quick family activity for Day 3
    - Have each family member think of one small thing they will say or do more honestly tomorrow (in school, at home, with friends). Share one example aloud and promise to help each other stay straightforward.
    • Note on tradition
    - In Jain practice, Uttam Aarjav is the third of the ten Das Lakshan. It means supreme straightforwardness and honesty in thoughts, speech, and actions. Different Jain traditions may use slightly different words (Aarjav, Arjava), but the meaning stays the same: be honest and consistent in heart and life.
