What are all days of dashalakshana
Dashalakshana Parva (Das Lakshan) is the Digambar Jain festival of ten supreme virtues. The days are each devoted to one dharma (virtue) in the following order:
1) Uttam Kshama — Forgiveness 2) Uttam Mardava — Humility 3) Uttam Arjava — Straightforwardness/honesty 4) Uttam Shaucha — Purity/contentment 5) Uttam Satya — Truth 6) Uttam Saṃyam — Self-restraint 7) Uttam Tapa — Austerities 8) Uttam Tyaga — Renunciation/Disinterested giving 9) Uttam Akinchanya — Non-attachment/non-possessiveness 10) Uttam Brahmacharya — Celibacy/chastity
Notes on practice and timing
- In Digambar Jains, these ten days follow Paryushan and are observed with daily discourses and focused practice on each virtue, often culminating in Kshamavani (forgiveness) and Anant Chaturdashi celebrations. The exact dates drift each year with the lunar calendar.
- In Śvetāmbara Jains, Paryushan is typically observed as an eight-day festival, and the Dashalakshana Parva is observed separately with the same ten virtues being emphasized, though the exact calendar and rituals can vary by temple.
