    Navkar tap ki vidhi

    one year ago 428

Navkar Tap is an important austerity practice in Jainism, performed for spiritual upliftment and to seek forgiveness. Here is the traditional vidhi (procedure) for performing Navkar Tap:

    Navkar Tap Vidhi (Procedure)

    1. Sankalp (Resolution):

    - Start by taking a firm vow (sankalp) to observe the Navkar Tap for the chosen duration (commonly 3, 5, 7, or 9 days).

    1. Fasting Pattern:

    - For 3 or 5 days: Generally, observe a fast (upvas) on the first and last days, and for the remaining days, eat only one meal before sunset (ekasan). - For 7 or 9 days: Fast (upvas) on the first, middle, and last days, and do ekasan on the other days. - No food or water is taken after sunset (chauvihar).

    1. Daily Rituals:

    - Morning: After bathing, recite the Navkar Mantra 20 times or as many times as possible. - Meditate on the virtues of the Panch Parmeshthi (Arihant, Siddha, Acharya, Upadhyaya, Sadhu). - Read or listen to Jain scriptures or stories (pravachan, pathshala). - Perform Pratikraman (repentance) and seek forgiveness for any mistakes. - Offer prayers to Tirthankaras and Panch Parmeshthi.

    1. Observing Samayik:

    - Practice Samayik (meditation and equanimity) for at least 48 minutes daily during the Tap.

    1. Additional Vows:

    - Maintain complete celibacy, truthfulness, non-violence, and refrain from any worldly pleasures. - Avoid green vegetables, root vegetables, and strictly follow Jain dietary rules.

    1. Completion (Uvasam Samapti):

    - On the last day, complete the Tap with a special prayer and Navkar Mantra recitation. - Perform Khamat Khamna—ask for forgiveness from all beings. - Break the fast with boiled water and simple Jain food, after offering prayers.

    Additional Notes:

    • Navkar Tap is best done under the guidance of a Jain monk or nun, or with the advice of knowledgeable elders.
    • The intention should be pure, focusing on spiritual progress and self-purification.

Navkar Tap is considered a powerful way to destroy karmas and attain inner peace.
