Meaning of jai jinendra
Jai Jinendra is a common Jain greeting.
- Meaning: Jai = hail or victory; Jinendra = the lord of the Jinas (the conquerors of inner passions, i.e., the Jina/Tirthankar). So “Jai Jinendra” literally means “Victory to the Jina” or “Hail the Lord Jinendra.”
- Usage: It is used to greet fellow Jains, monks, and nuns with reverence for the Tirthankaras and for the path of self-purification they represent.
- Spiritual essence: The phrase honors the ideal of conquering inner passions (like anger, greed, pride) and striving toward right belief, right knowledge, and right conduct.
Note: Both Digambar and Shwetambar traditions use this greeting, and its core meaning remains the same.
