Uttam satya means the “highest truth.”

In Jainism, truthfulness (satya) is one of the five Mahavratas (great vows). Uttam satya refers to practicing the highest form of truth—speaking what is true, but always in a way that is non-harmful, timely, and beneficial. It means:

• Speaking only based on right knowledge (samyak jnana) and right faith (samyak darshan).
• Keeping the intention pure (non-harmful, compassionate) even while telling the truth.
• Choosing the right time, place, and audience so the truth helps rather than hurts.

Both Digambar and Shvetambar traditions recognize satya as essential, but they emphasize that truthful speech should never cause violence, deceit, or pain to others. Uttam satya thus embodies truth spoken with wisdom, discrimination, and compassion.
