Brahmā (Brahma Yaksha) is the male guardian (yaksha) attached to the 10th Tirthankara, Shitalanath. In Jain iconography he is one of the shasanadevatas (deities of the teaching) who protect and accompany the Jina, though he is not liberated. His female counterpart is Ashoka. In some traditions he is described with a four-armed or multi-armed form and is often shown as a protector figure associated with Shitalanath’s cult, including the Brahmadeva-stambha monuments. In both major Jain traditions (Digambara and Śvetāmbara) Brahmā is recognized as Shitalanath’s Yaksha, though temple art and local cult practices around him can vary regionally.
