Story of Hastagiri Jain Tirth

Hastagiri Jain Tirth is a renowned Jain temple located near Palitana, Gujarat, approximately 25 km away. It sits on a hill by the Shetrunjaya River and is considered one of the prominent Jain pilgrimage sites in the region. The temple is dedicated to Bhagwan Rishabhdev, also known as Shri Adishwar Bhagwan. The area, known as Hastisengiri, has a historical significance dating back to the time of Bhagwan Adishwar. Bharat Chakravartin, Bhagwan Adishwar's eldest son, established this sacred place, where his footprints can still be seen in a small temple. Bharat Chakravartin achieved salvation by fasting unto death here, accompanied by the King's elephant, leading to the name Shri Hastagiri Tirth.

In 1979, a grand and expansive temple was constructed and consecrated on this mount. Spanning across 9 acres, the Hastagiri Jain Tirth takes the form of an octagonal-shaped Jain temple and is a significant attraction during a visit to Palitana. The primary shrine of the temple contains four idols of Vrishabhdev facing the cardinal directions. The dome near the sanctum sanctorum boasts intricate carvings akin to the beautiful carved domes found in the Dilwara temples of Mount Abu. Outside the main temple, there are smaller Jinalayas dedicated to the 72 Tirthankars. This shrine is also a part of the 38 km circumambulatory pilgrimage of Mt. Shatrunjaya.

Hastagiri sits atop a mountain and can be reached by road or by climbing. From the mountain's peak, visitors are treated to breathtaking views of the Mt. Shatrunjay temples on one side and Mt. Kadamgiri on the other. The surrounding natural beauty adds to the overall allure of the place.

For the convenience of pilgrims, there are accommodation facilities and dining halls available in the temple's vicinity.
