Munjpur, a venerable village with historical roots dating back to the 11th century, was founded by King Munj of the Parmar dynasty in V.S. 1003. Historical records, such as "Som Soubhagya," mention that in the 15th century, Shresthi Munt from Mujing nagar commissioned the creation of innumerable idols of Thirthankaras made of metal (paanch dhatu). These sacred idols were then installed under the blessed guidance of Acharya Shri Somasundarsuriji. The present-day Munjpur was once known as Mujing nagar, and thus, this temple can be traced back to the 15th century.
At a certain point in time, Munjpur housed three separate temples. Until V.S. 1667, there was a dedicated temple for Jotingada Parshvanath. Unfortunately, during a period of Muslim invasion, this temple was ravaged. The idol of Jotingada Parshvanath was subsequently relocated and enshrined in the temple of Shantinath Bhagwan, a structure that boasts over 400 years of existence. The idol of Jotingada Parshvanath is believed to date back to the era of King Samprati, and it is recognized by names like "Munjpura Parshvanath" and "Jotinga Parshvanath." Every year, on the 11th day of the bright half of the month of Migsar, a flag-raising ceremony takes place. The temple saw its most recent renovation in V.S. 2001.
In addition to the main temple, there is a two-story temple dedicated to Shri Godiji Parshvanath in Munjpur.
For those planning to visit, Munjpur is located approximately 13 kilometers from the Harij railway station, with the nearby presence of Sankheswar, Sami, Kamboi, and more. The village offers two Dharamshalas, two Upashrayas, and a Panjrapole.
The significance of Jotingada Parshvanath can be found in various scriptures like "Shri Parshvanath Naammala," "135 Naam Garbhit Parshvanath Stavan," "Shri Parshvanath ke 108 Naam ke Chaand," and "Tirthmala." Idols of Jotingada Parshvanath are also present in Jiravala Tirth and the Kalikund Parshvanath temple in Santacruz, Mumbai.
