Bhagwan Vimalnath is our Thirteenth Tirthankar. Vimalnath in his previous life was King Padmasen who ruled over Mahapuri town in Dhatikikhand region. According to Jain beleifs, he became a Sidh(a liberated soul). He was a very religious king who use to be engage in religious practices. Later he decided to take diksha from Acharya Yarsvargupt. He had reached a very exalted state of enlightenment due to which of many lifetimes he reborned as the next Tirthankar of our Jainism. After his soul reincarnated in the Mahardhik dimension of Gods, it descended into the womb of Queen Shyama Devi who was wife of King Kritavarman of Kampilpur region. The Queen had fourteen auspicious dreams which every Tirthankar's mother use to dream of.
The King and Queen knowing that the soul in the womb is going to be our next Tirthankar were overjoyed. On the third day of the Shulka Paksh of the Magh month(according to Jain calendar) the Queen gave birth to a baby boy. During the pregnancy there was love and peace in the atmosphere and there was complete peace in the Kingdom. Everyone in the kingdom was very happy. Seeing this purity everywhere, King decided to name the child as Vimal(which means untarnished or pure). The child was obedient, loving and very religious and use to respect each and everyone. After he grew up they got him married. Then the King decided to hand over the Kingdom to him and went into the forest to perform spiritual and religious practices.
Vimalnath ruled the Kingdom wisely for many years in his rule there was complete peace. But slowly a sense of detachment began to come over him.One day in his meditations he saw his previous lifetimes and realised the reason for his this birth. He gave up the throne and embraced ascetism. A number of members of the royal family and his subjects followed him to this path. After rigorous spiritual practices he achieved Omniscience.
He began teaching and preaching his followers to follow the principles of Jain philosophy. He asked them to practice Right to Conduct, Right thinking and Right Action. Leading a life of compassion and non violence he asked them to give up materialistic pleasures and perceive the goal of life ie. Self realisation. And on the seventh day of the dark half of the month of Ashad(according to Jain calender) he attained Nirvana at Sammed Shikar. Svayambu Vasudev, Merak Prativasudev and Bhadra Baldev were his contemporaries. The symbol of Vimalnath was Boar(wild pig).
