six aras as per jainism
Six Āras (arās) are the six long epochs into each half of the Jain Kalchakra (time cycle). Each half (utsarpini = ascending, avasarpini = descending) is divided into these six arās, with conditions like happiness, age, and morals changing from one to the next.
The six Āras (in both halves, with reverse order between UTsapini and AVasarpini): 1) Sukhama Sukhama — utmost happiness 2) Sukhama — happiness 3) Sukhama Dukhama — happiness with some sorrow 4) Dukhamā Sukhama — sorrow with some happiness 5) Dukhamā — sorrow 6) Dukhamā Dukhamā — utmost sorrow
We are currently in the fifth Ara of the Avsarpini phase (Dukhamā): sorrow is increasing, and spiritual decline is evident. When this half-cycle ends, Utsarpini will begin again with the first Ara in the new cycle. ( aws.yja.org)
