What are the 4 Lokas?
In Jainism, there are four gatis (destinies) or four corresponding lokas where the soul can be reborn:
- Deva gati — heavenly beings (Deva-lok)
- Manusya gati — human beings (Manushya-lok)
- Tiryanch gati — animals, plants, and other non-human living beings (Tiryáncha-lok)
- Naraka gati — beings that are reborn in hells (Naraka-lok)
These are the four main states of existence through which a jiva transmigrates based on karma. The liberated souls reside in Siddhashila, the abode above the uppermost lokas, but that is not a rebirth state like the four gatis. You can read more here and learn more about how many gatis exist .
