should we eat in mazannine area above pratisthit pratima ji?
In Jain dharma, eating inside the temple premises, especially near the Pratistha or garbhagriha where the murtis are enshrined, is not appropriate in both Digambar and Shwetambar traditions. Food is generally not eaten inside the temple; if there is a bhojanshala (canteen) or dining area, meals are consumed there or outside the sanctum, as per the temple’s rules. The aim is to keep the temple pure (pavitra) and to avoid any harm or distraction around the sacred space.
What you should do:
- Do not eat in the area around the pratisthit pratima ji (the installed idol) or inside the main temple spaces.
- If the temple has a bhojanshala, eat there or outside the temple following the local guidelines.
- If you’re uncertain, ask temple staff or trustees for the correct place to eat and follow their instructions.
