5 Indriyas of Jainism
In Jainism, the five indriyas (pañcendriya) are the five senses through which living beings perceive the world. They are:
- Sparshanendriya — sense of touch (skin)
- Rasendriya — sense of taste (tongue)
- Ghranendriya — sense of smell (nose)
- Chakshurendriya — sense of sight (eyes)
- Shravanendriya — sense of hearing (ears)
These are the five senses that help the jiva experience objects and form knowledge. There is no difference in this basic listing between Digambar and Shwetambar traditions; the concept remains the same in Jain teachings. For more on pañcendriya, you can read here and here .
