Rushabhdev (Rishabhanath) is said in Jain tradition to have taught 72 arts to men and 64 crafts to women. The exact items in these lists vary between Digambar and Shwetambar sources, but the idea is that he laid down a broad set of skilled arts and knowledge to support society—including writing, agriculture, trade, crafts, etc. A common core among many accounts is:

• Six broad domains that he imparted to his children: use of weapons (asi), writing (masi), agriculture (krishi), knowledge/education (vidya), trade and commerce (vanijya), and various crafts including architecture (silpa).
• His daughters Brahmi and Sundari are linked specifically to language/script and mathematics, illustrating the emphasis on literacy and numbers.
