Rishabhdev (Rushabhdev) is traditionally said to have taught 72 kalās (arts) to men and 64 kalās to women. Different Jain traditions give slightly different lists for these kalās, but the core idea is that he established a wide range of arts, sciences and skills for society. Brahmi and Sundari are sometimes mentioned as his daughters associated with learning (language/script) and numbers/mathematics, reflecting this teaching.

Note on tradition:

• Digambar and Shwetambar texts sometimes recount the lists with small variations in names or groupings, but both agree on the broad idea of 72 kalās for men and 64 kalās for women.
