What is the purpose behind visiting sammed shikhaji

    8 months ago 158

Purpose of visiting Sammed Shikharji is purely spiritual, not touristic.

    Main purposes:

    1. Place of Moksha of Tirthankars

    - Sammed Shikharji (Parasnath hill, Jharkhand) is the Siddha Kshetra where 20 out of 24 Tirthankars attained moksha. - Going there is mainly to remember their last spiritual efforts and to bow to those Siddhas with deep devotion (bhakti‑bhav).

    1. Purification of our own soul

    - The long paav‑yatra / parikrama, done with: - Navkār Mantra, - fasting or simple food, - maun (minimum talk), - ahimsā and discipline, becomes a strong tapas (austerity) and bhakti. - This helps reduce karmas and makes the soul more pure and peaceful.

    1. Strengthening right faith (samyak darshan)

    - When we see the tonks (spots of nirvana) of so many Tirthankars, it reminds us that: - moksha is real, - human life is rare, - following Jain principles (ahimsa, satya, aparigraha, brahmacharya, anuvrats) is meaningful. - Our shraddhā (faith) and nisthā (firmness) in Jain Dharma increases.

    1. Following footsteps of great saints

    - For centuries, Acharyas, munis, aryikas, shravaks, shravikas have done yatra here. - By going there, we try to walk on the same path of tyāg (renunciation) and vairāgya (detachment), at least a little.

    1. Unity of Jain Sangh

    - Both Digambar and Shvetambar consider it the topmost tirth. - Jains from all over the world do yatra there, which creates a feeling of oneness and shared faith.

    1. Making and renewing vows

    - Many people take or strengthen: - anuvrats, - upvas/ayambil niyam, - daily pratikraman, - decisions to avoid non‑veg, alcohol, night‑eating, etc. - The holy atmosphere gives courage to live a more dharmic life.

In short: Purpose of visiting Sammed Shikharji is to worship the Siddhas, purify our own soul, deepen Jain faith, and move a little closer towards the path of moksha — never for picnic, enjoyment, or just “sightseeing”.
