Samyak Darshan, Samyak Charitra, Samyak Dnyan
These three are called Ratnatray (Three Jewels) of Jain Dharma. Very simply:
- Samyak Darshan (सम्यक् दर्शन) – Right Faith / Right Vision
- Having true belief in: - the soul (jiv) is real and eternal, - karma binds the soul, - moksha is possible, - the Tirthankars and Jain scriptures show the true path. - It is a pure, doubt‑free, respectful attitude towards Jain tattvas and true Guru.
- Samyak Jnān / Gyan (सम्यक् ज्ञान) – Right Knowledge
- Correct understanding of: - jiv–ajiv (soul and non‑soul), - the 7/9 tattvas (jiv, ajiv, asrav, bandha, samvar, nirjarā, moksha, etc.), - how karma works and how liberation happens. - Knowledge without mithyātva (wrong belief), doubts or confusion.
- Samyak Chāritra (सम्यक् चारित्र) – Right Conduct
- Living daily life according to Jain vows: - ahimsā, satya, asteya, brahmacharya, aparigraha. - For sādhus–sādhvīs: very strict mahāvrat and discipline. - For śrāvaks–śrāvikās: anuvrat, guṇvrat, śikṣāvrat, etc., as taught by their tradition.
Together: Only when right faith + right knowledge + right conduct are present and support each other, the soul truly walks towards moksha. All Jain sects (Digambar and Shvetambar) accept these three as the core path; differences are mainly in details of practice, not in the basic meaning.
