So according to khatargatch what a women should do in her periods
In Kharatar Gacch (a Śvetāmbara Mūrtipūjak gacch), periods (rajo-darshan) are treated as a natural physical state, not as a sin. The rules are mainly about ritual shuddhi (cleanliness) for mandir and pūjā.
Very simple summary:
1. What to avoid during periods (according to usual Kharatar Gacch maryādā)
Till active bleeding continues, normally a woman:
- Does not:
- About going to mandir at all:
These are maryādā (community rules), not a statement that a woman is “spiritually impure”.
2. What you can and should do in periods
Spiritual activities are very much allowed, only dravya–pūjā is paused:
- At home, away from the main ghar-derasar:
- Daily life:
You can read more on general Jain rules in periods here: “what are the rules of periods in jainism”
3. After periods – when Kharatar Gacch woman resumes pūjā / mandir
Normally:
- Bleeding fully stops.
- She takes a complete bath (snān) with head wash, wears fresh washed clothes.
- After that she may:
- Go to mandir - Do mūrtipūjā, abhiṣek, touch pūjā sāman, take part in normal rituals again
In many families this means:
- 3 days pause, snān on 4th day and then resume;
- In some cases 4 or 5 days – this is family / local maryādā, not an Agam line.
More detailed explanation is here: “After period, when can we go to temple” “Is head bath required after 7th day of periods”
4. Special note for Kharatar Gacch
- Kharatar Gacch does not teach that a menstruating woman is lower or cannot do bhakti.
- It only keeps high ritual shuddhi for:
So, in periods according to Kharatar Gacch:
- Pause: mandir entry (usually), touching mūrtis / dravyapūjā.
- Continue strongly: mantra, bhāva-bhakti, svādhyāy, good conduct, inner purity.
- After it ends: full bath + fresh clothes, then normal mandir and pūjā as before, as per your local saṅgh’s count of days.
If in doubt, always follow the maryādā told by your own Kharatar Gacch guru or local saṅgh, because small details can differ from city to city.
