Can dehydrated potato a jain consume
In Jainism, potato in any form (fresh, boiled, fried, dehydrated, flakes, powder, chips, etc.) is not allowed.
Reason:
- Potato is a root / underground vegetable (kand-mool).
- Uprooting it kills the whole plant and disturbs many tiny living beings in the soil.
- The tuber itself is considered to contain many subtle lives (anant-kay).
Once something is non-Jain by its origin, processing it (drying, dehydrating, making powder) does not make it Jain-friendly. So dehydrated potato is also not suitable for a Jain diet, in both Śvetāmbara and Digambara traditions.
If you are looking for alternatives, you can use:
- Rice, sabudana, rajgira, singhada flour, or other non-root vegetables instead of potato.
