Was rishabhdev not born in kaliyug
According to Jain philosophy, Bhagwan Rishabhdev (Adinath) was not born in our present Kaliyug.
In Jain time‑cycle (kāl‑chakra):
- We are now in Avasarpinī (descending half) of the time cycle.
- This Avasarpinī has six aras (time‑periods):
- All 24 Tirthankars including Rishabhdev are born in the 3rd and 4th ara of Avasarpinī, which are far, far earlier than today’s Kaliyug concept used in Hindu tradition.
The term “Kaliyug” is from Hindu time‑calculation, not from Jain technical terminology. In Jainism we don’t describe Rishabhdev’s birth as “in Kaliyug”; we say:
- He appeared in the 3rd ara (Suṣamā‑duṣamā) of the current Avasarpinī, in Ayodhya, as the son of King Nabhiraj and Queen Marudevi.
So from a pure Jain viewpoint:
- Rishabhdev was not a Kaliyug avatar and
- His birth is placed in an extremely ancient, highly auspicious era, long before the very degraded phase of time we are in now.
