    Ichkar surat stotra meaning

    6 months ago 163

You probably mean “Icchakara Stotra / Icchākari Stotra”, a popular Jain stotra especially for Bhagwan Parshvanath.

    Below is a simple explanation.

    ---

    1. What is Icchakara Stotra?

    • A Jain devotional hymn mainly dedicated to Bhagwan Parshvanath (23rd Tirthankar).
    • Recited mostly in the Śvetāmbara tradition (though any Jain can recite it).
    • The word “Icchakara” comes from:
    - icchā = wish / desire - kara = maker / accomplisher So, “Icchakara Stotra” means a stotra that helps fulfill pure, right wishes of the devotee.

    It is believed that:

    • Reciting it with shraddhā (faith) and samayik bhaav (peaceful, pure mind)
    - removes difficulties and obstacles - gives shānti (peace) and kalyāṇ (spiritual upliftment) - supports progress on the path of moksha.

    ---

    2. General meaning / purpose of the stotra

In simple words, when you recite Icchakara Stotra, you are saying:

    • “I bow to Parshvanath Bhagwan, who destroys all sorrows and protects true devotees.”
    • “By remembering and praising his keval-gyān (infinite knowledge), karuṇā (compassion) and virya (spiritual strength), may my sins get lighter, my fear go away, and my mind turn towards dharma.”
    • “May all my shubha icchā (pure, non-violent, dharmic wishes) be fulfilled in a way that helps my soul go upward.”

So, the real meaning is not just “get worldly things”, but:

    • to remove दुःख (sorrow)
    • to remove pap karma
    • and to gain inner strength to walk on the Jain path.

    ---

    3. Example: first verse and its meaning (simple)

A commonly recited first verse is along the lines of:

    > “I bow to Parshvanath Bhagwan, known as the fulfiller of wishes. > By bowing to him, sorrows are destroyed and highest good arises.”

    Simple, child-level meaning:

    • “O Parshvanath Bhagwan,
you are Icchākār – one who fulfills the good wishes of your devotees.
    • When I do namaskar to you with a clean heart,
my double sorrows (physical and mental) start going away, and I receive true auspiciousness – peace, faith in dharma, and progress towards moksha.”

    ---

    4. Spiritual essence (bhāv)

While many people recite Icchakara Stotra for:

    • protection from problems
    • success in good work
    • health, peace at home, etc.

    The Jain spiritual essence is:

    • to develop bhakti towards a Vitarag Tirthankar
    • to remember that only our own soul, by following right faith–right knowledge–right conduct, can free us from all suffering
    • to use worldly benefits (if they come) for seva, ahimsa, and sadhana, not for more attachment.
