what is the meaning of jai jinendra
“Jai Jinendra” is a common Jain greeting.
- Jai = victory, glory, praise, “hail”
- Jinendra = Lord of the Jinas (Jinas = Tirthankars who have conquered inner enemies like anger, pride, deceit, greed)
So “Jai Jinendra” means “Victory to the Jina” or “Hail to Lord Jinendra.”
When we say “Jai Jinendra” to someone, we are:
- Remembering the Tirthankars and their victory over passions
- Respectfully greeting the other person with that same spiritual feeling
- Indirectly wishing that we also walk on the path of right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct
Both Digambar and Shwetambar Jains use this greeting, and the meaning is the same in both traditions.
