what are different types of labhdis

    6 months ago 110

In Jainism, labdhi means a special spiritual attainment or power that arises when karmic veils become weak or are destroyed.

Commonly described main types of labdhis are:

    1. Jñāna Labdhi – Attainment of Knowledge

    When knowledge‑obscuring karmas reduce, the soul manifests special knowledge, such as: - Mati-jñāna (sense–mental knowledge) - Śruta-jñāna (scriptural / verbal knowledge) - Avadhi-jñāna (clairvoyant knowledge) - Manahparyāya-jñāna (telepathic knowledge) - Keval-jñāna (omniscience)

    1. Darśan Labdhi – Attainment of Perception

When perception‑obscuring karmas weaken, the soul gains clearer, purer perception: - Chakṣu-darśan (seeing through eyes) - Achakṣu-darśan (perception without eyes) - Avadhi-darśan (clairvoyant perception) - Keval-darśan (perfect perception)

    1. Vīrya Labdhi – Attainment of Spiritual Energy

Special strength of the soul; power to do spiritual effort (sādhana), austerity and dharma with great inner energy.

    1. Sukha Labdhi – Attainment of Bliss

Experience of deep inner happiness and peace when pain‑producing karmas reduce; in the pure state, infinite bliss.

    1. Other Important Labdhis Often Mentioned

    - Samyaktva Labdhi – attainment of right faith (samyak darshan). - Samādhi Labdhi – attainment of deep, steady meditation and inner stillness.

In some texts you will also see Aṣṭa Labdhis (8 attainments) like aṇimā, mahimā, garimā, laghimā, prāpti, prākāmya, īśitva, vaśitva – these are extraordinary powers, but Jain dharma teaches that they are by‑products only; the real goal is liberation (moksha), not enjoyment of powers.
