What about oral sex
In Jain Dharma, sexual conduct is understood under the vow of brahmacharya (chastity / self‑control).
- For monks and nuns (both Digambar and Shwetambar)
- Any kind of sexual activity is completely forbidden – this includes intercourse, oral sex, masturbation, or any other form of deliberate sexual pleasure in thought, word, or deed. - Their goal is total control of the senses and passions.
- For householders (married lay Jains)
- Sex itself is allowed only as a limited, controlled activity within marriage, following the principle of swadara‑santosh – being content with one’s own spouse. ( jainknowledge.com) - Jain texts focus mainly on: - No adultery or extra‑marital / pre‑marital sex - No exploitation, force, or harm (physical or emotional) - Moderation and self‑control, not indulgence
- Where does oral sex fit in?
- Scriptures usually do not list every modern act separately. - From the Jain point of view, any deliberate act done only to arouse or satisfy sexual passion counts as maithun (sexual activity) and falls under brahmacharya. - So, for: - Monks/nuns – oral sex is clearly a serious violation of brahmacharya. - Laypeople – if it is: - Outside marriage → not allowed (like any other sexual act). ( jainknowledge.com) - Within marriage → still judged by: - How much it inflames passions and attachment - Whether it involves any kind of himsa (harm), disrespect, or use of the partner as an object - Whether it leads you away from or towards more restraint and simplicity
The more it is purely lust‑driven, frequent, and obsessive, the more it is considered against the spirit of brahmacharya and binds heavier karma.
- Simple Jain guideline
- Ask yourself honestly: - Does this increase lust and restlessness in me? - Does it in any way hurt, pressure, or degrade the other person? - Does it make spiritual practices (samayik, pratikraman, jap, svadhyay) weaker? - If yes, Jain dharma would advise reducing and eventually giving up such acts, and moving toward simpler, calmer, more restrained marital life.
- If you feel you have crossed a line
- Do alochana–pratikraman (accept the fault before Jinendra and guru, and repent). ( jainknowledge.com) - Take a small pachchakhan (vow) to increase restraint (e.g., more days of celibacy, avoiding stimulating content, etc.). - Gradually aim toward stronger brahmacharya, appropriate to your stage of life.
