In Jain dharma, there is no fixed Agamic rule like “after exactly __ days you can do pooja after periods.”
Common traditional practice is:
- During periods (menstruation):
- Avoid
dravya‑pooja (snatra/abhishek, touching idols, going inside garbha‑griha, handling scriptures and puja items).
- You
can always do
bhav‑bhakti at home – Navkar mantra, stavan, prarthna, swadhyaya (listening/reading), dhyan. (

- After periods stop (when bleeding has fully ended):
- Take a
full bath (snan) with hair wash, wear freshly washed clothes, and then you may start normal pooja again. (

-
Shwetambar: usually stop temple/dravya‑pooja for
3 days; on the
4th day, if bleeding is over, do full snan and then resume pooja.
-
Digambar: many families keep one extra day; stop for
4 days, and on the
5th day, after snan, resume pooja.
- If bleeding continues longer, wait until it
fully stops, then take bath next morning and do pooja.
Main point in Jain view:
Menstruation is a natural process, not a sin. These rules are about ritual cleanliness (shuddhi), not about your soul being impure. Inner bhakti, Navkar, pratikraman, dhyan etc. are always allowed.
