“Swadara gaman” (more fully: swadāra-santosh or swadāra-gamana) is a Jain ethical term related to brahmacharya (sexual restraint) for householders.

Simple meaning

• Swa-dara = one’s own lawful spouse
• Gaman = going / sexual relation
• So, swadara gaman means having sexual relations only with one’s own spouse, and being content with one spouse.

Place in Jain vows

For lay Jains (shravak–shravika):

• They do not observe total celibacy like monks.
• Their vow is Brahmacharya Anuvrat:

- Absolute celibacy – no sexual thought, talk, or act at all.

• Householders (both traditions):
