- Who wrote the Navkar Mantra?
- It is not attributed to any single person. - Jain tradition calls it an anādi (beginningless), eternal mantra. - It is considered an eternal Siddha‑mantra, revealed and used by Tirthankars and Jain saints, not “composed” by a human author. - So we do not say “X wrote Navkar Mantra”; we say it is a timeless prayer to the Panch Parameshti (Arihant, Siddha, Acharya, Upadhyay, Sadhu).
- What language is it in?
The original Navkar Mantra is in Jain Prakrit (Ardhamāgadhī Prakrit). The core lines are:
णमो अरिहंताणं णमो सिद्धाणं णमो आयरियाणं णमो उवज्झायाणं णमो लोए सव्वसाहूणं
(Transliteration: Namo Arihantāṇam, Namo Siddhāṇam, Namo Āyariyāṇam, Namo Uvajjhāyāṇam, Namo Loe Savva Sāhūṇam)
Both Digambar and Shvetambar accept this same basic Prakrit form; there are only very small pronunciation differences.
