aagam how many
In Jainism, the number of Āgams (canonical scriptures) depends on the tradition:
- Śvetāmbara tradition
They traditionally accept 45 Āgams, divided as: - 11 Anga Āgam - 12 Upānga Āgam - 6 Chedasūtra - 4 Mūlasūtra - 2 Chūlikā-sūtra - 10 Prakīrṇaka-sūtra
- Digambara tradition
- They believe that all original Āgams are lost. - So, they do not accept the present Śvetāmbara Āgams as authentic and instead follow texts like Ṣaṭkhaṇḍāgama and Kaṣāyapāhuda, etc.
So, usually when people ask “How many Āgams?”, they are referring to the Śvetāmbara count of 45.
