How many ayambil should we do for varshik alochana compensation
In Jain Dharma there is no single, fixed number of Ayambil prescribed in the scriptures for “compensation” of a missed Varshik Alochana (Samvatsari/Kshamavani Pratikraman). Prāyaścitta (atonement) must be taken from your Guru/Acharya according to the tradition (Śvetāmbara or Digambara), the nature of the lapse, intention, and your capacity.
The usual, authentic path is:
- Do Alochana (confession) before a Guru or in their name.
- Perform the missed Pratikraman at the earliest possible time.
- Accept the specific prāyaścitta given by the Guru. This may include Ayambil(s), Upvās, extra Samayik, scriptural study, or seva. The number of Ayambil, if prescribed, is decided by the Guru—not fixed universally.
